At The Family Dog, my aim is to help you to develop your dog’s natural behaviour so that he can become an even better family pet. I believe that much of the pleasure of owning a dog comes from sharing in its natural enthusiasm for life and that on many occasions dogs should be allowed just to be dogs. However in order for dogs to live happily with their families, we do need to teach them how to behave appropriately in all situations. I will help you to train your dog to be calm and well-behaved when necessary whilst still allowing him the freedom to let off steam regularly.
Dogs learn best when they are relaxed and having fun therefore all my training is done using positive, motivational training methods. With this in mind, I use a range of rewards including food, toys and verbal praise to encourage dogs and to reward them when they offer the right behaviour. I do not use any methods involving punishment or harsh handling. I want dogs to enjoy their training!
My objective is that both dogs and owners will look forward to their training and that everything learnt should be useful when you leave the training class. I will help you help your dog to know how to behave appropriately whether you are at home, out walking or even in the pub. In essence, I will teach you the skills to give you the confidence that your dog will be relaxed and in control in any situation.
I can supply dog training, puppy training and behaviour consultations in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and North London including Redbourn, Harpenden, St. Albans, Hemel Hempstead, Luton, Hatfield, Dunstable, Berkhamsted, Watford, Hitchin and Welwyn Garden City.
'On hot days, keep your dog cool and safe by exercising him early in the morning or late in the evening.
Dogs are more vulnerable to heat stroke than humans and are at risk of overheating if walked in the midday sun. '
